In November 11th, the Hannahville Ice and Turf sports complex in Wells hosted Bayside Soccer’s inaugural soccer tournament, featuring teams from Iron Mountain’s 906 FC, Houghton FC, and Bayside Soccer and its affiliate Delta United Soccer Academy. The tournament was a fun and competitive event aimed at raising funds for the high school team. Organizer Amy Blahnik stated that this was their first time hosting a tournament, and they hoped to have more in the spring and next fall.
The games were played in a round-robin style with three-on-three matches. The top two teams at the end of group play had a playoff for first place. The 12U group was won by 906 FC, Houghton FC Red took home the prize for the 14U division, and Bayside – Delta United Soccer Academy emerged victorious in the 16U group.
Bayside Soccer was established in 1996 to provide recreational soccer for the region. Their programs include summer recreation soccer and a High School Club program that competes regionally. They focus on providing player development, teamwork, and positive coaching experiences for families.
Delta United Soccer Academy, operating under the Bayside Soccer umbrella, has both fall and winter/spring seasons and almost 60 players aged ten years old and above. They compete with other clubs in the UP and attend tournaments in Wisconsin, focusing on providing high-quality training for players interested in improving at soccer.
