STAT introduces new fellowship for science reporting [United States]

The Sharon Begley-Science Reporting Fellowship is an excellent opportunity for early-career journalists from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups in the United States. This yearlong fellowship, based at STAT’s Boston office, is designed to prepare journalists for a successful career in science journalism.

The fellowship will take place from mid-July 2024 to mid-July 2025. The successful fellow will work alongside experienced science and health reporters and editors at STAT, reporting and writing articles for the publication.

The selected fellow will receive a salary of $75,000 and health insurance, as well as 10 days of vacation and standard holidays off. This fellowship honors the late Sharon Begley, an acclaimed science writer for STAT who passed away in January 2021 from complications of lung cancer.

To apply for this prestigious fellowship, journalists must have a degree in journalism or a related field and at least two years of experience in reporting or editing. They should also have a strong interest in science journalism and be committed to advancing diversity and inclusion in the industry.

The deadline to apply for the Sharon Begley-Science Reporting Fellowship is April 26.
