Virginia Tech is hosting events aimed at helping women in data science learn more about opportunities in the field. On Monday, a networking mixer was held for anyone interested in data science, with the goal of increasing female participation and encouraging women to pursue careers in the field. According to the US Census Bureau, there is expected to be a 35 percent increase in demand for data scientists by 2032.

Professor Angie Patterson from Virginia Tech’s Department of Statistics emphasized the importance of providing networking opportunities and role models for young women in data science. The theme of this year’s event is focused on helping women gain visibility in the field and become leaders in their respective areas.

On Tuesday, a half-day conference will be held, featuring speakers from various industries within data science. These events aim to provide women with valuable resources and support as they navigate their careers in this growing field. By attending these events, women can connect with successful professionals and gain insights into how they can achieve their goals and make a positive impact on society through their work in data science.
