114-year-old man passes away just shy of his 115th birthday

On Tuesday, Juan Vicente Perez Mora, who held the Guinness Record for being the oldest man in the world, passed away at the age of 114. This news was reported by multiple media outlets and Venezuelan government officials.

Perez was officially awarded the title in February 2022 when he was 112 years and 253 days old. He resided in El Cobre, a town in Táchira state, Venezuela. Perez was known to have fathered 11 children and had a large family consisting of 41 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Born on May 27, 1909, as the ninth out of ten siblings, Perez was actively involved in agriculture from a young age. He started working with his father and brothers in sugar cane and coffee harvesting when he was just five years old. Throughout his long life, Perez experienced many changes and historical events, leaving behind a legacy that will be remembered by his family and the people of El Cobre.
