Chicago Cubs Shake Up Front Office Staff

The Cubs recently announced changes to their front office, with Jared Banner being promoted to the role of assistant general manager. Sources have confirmed that Banner will be working under GM Carter Hawkins and president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer. Prior to his promotion, Banner served as vice president of player development for the last two years and also held the position of vice president of special projects during the 2021 season.

This change comes after Craig Breslow left the Cubs to lead the Red Sox baseball operations. Breslow had been the assistant GM and VP of pitching with the Cubs in recent years. In addition to Banner’s new role, the Cubs are also in the process of finding a new farm director to fill the vacancy left by Banner’s promotion.

Under Banner’s leadership, the Cubs have built a highly-regarded farm system, earning praise from outlets like FanGraphs, MLB Pipeline, and Bleacher Report.
