China Takes Early Lead in 2024 World Aquatic Championships with One Gold Medal

China Dominates Night 1 with Two Medals

On Day 1 of the 2024 World Aquatic Championships in Doha, China is currently leading the medal table with one gold medal. Li Bingjie won silver in the women’s 400 freestyle, while Pan Zhanle set a new World Record in the Chinese men’s 4×100 free relay team.

The Netherlands, South Korea, and New Zealand each have one gold medal. The Netherlands upset the Australians by winning the women’s 4×100 free relay event. New Zealand’s Erika Fairweather set a new national record by winning the women’s 400 freestyle event.

As of now, Australia and Germany are the only other countries with two medals each. They both won silver and bronze in various events on Day 1 of the competition. The medal table stands as follows:

China – 1

South Korea – 1

Netherlands – 1

New Zealand – 1

Italy – 1 (won silver in women’s breaststroke)

Canada – 1 (won bronze in men’s breaststroke)

USA – 1 (won bronze in men’s backstroke)
