Free health screenings and classes offered in Detroit for Public Health Week

This week, Detroit is hosting Public Health Week and offering free health screenings to its residents. The Detroit Health Department is partnering with the Detroit Police Department precincts, recreation centers, and community members to organize a range of screenings and classes.

Last year’s event included vaccinations in addition to the health screenings. This year, blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, and kidney function checks are among the available tests, along with HIV and syphilis testing, fitness classes, CPR and Narcan training, mental health makeovers, lead screenings, and a men’s panel discussion called “Cuts and Conversations.”

Screenings and events will take place at various locations throughout the week. On Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., senior health and wellness screenings will be held at St. Pat’s Senior Center. Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., there will be health and wellness screenings at Patton Recreation Center followed by an iDecide Teen Open House at Detroit Health Department from 5-7:30 p.m. On Friday from 11:00 a.m to 3:00 p
