5 key players in LA have received a $1.4 billion investment.

In a major move, the Los Angeles Dodgers announced a $140 million, 10-year contract with catcher Will Smith. The deal supersedes an earlier $8.85 million, one-year agreement reached in January and brings the team’s spending on key players to nearly $1.4 billion since December.

At 28 years old, Smith is a first-time All-Star who had a standout season last year with a .261 average, 19 homers, and 76 RBIs. In his six seasons with the Dodgers, he has maintained an impressive average of .263 with 91 homers and 308 RBIs. This latest signing ensures that the Dodgers will retain one of their top players until after the 2025 season.

With this latest signing, the Dodgers now have a total commitment of $1,365,687,500 to five key players. This includes two-way star Shohei Ohtani ($700 million for 10 years), right-handers Yoshinobu Yamamoto ($325 million for 12 years) and Tyler Glasnow ($136,562,500 for five years), outfielder Teoscar Hern├índez ($23.5 million for one year), and now Will Smith as well. The team’s commitment to these top players is helping them maintain their position as one of the most dominant teams in baseball today.
