The newly elected President of Argentina, Javier Milei, won a landslide victory on Sunday and outlined his plans to reform the country’s economy. Milei announced that it could take 18-24 months to get inflation under control, with a poverty rate of 40%. He also stated that humans should not have access to abortion and climate change is not humanity’s fault.
Milei has toned down some of his controversial rhetoric since his election, saying he has a clear plan for state reform. One of his most popular ideas is to replace the weakened peso with the US dollar while having the public choose the nation’s currency. He explained that this can only be done after addressing the debt issued by Argentina’s Central Bank.
Milei will take office on December 10 and become the leader of Latin America’s third largest economy. Before his presidency, he stated that he does not deal with communists, which has led to praise from leaders from Latin America such as Brazil and China. China congratulated Milei on his victory and said it will continue cooperation with Argentina.
