Rory McIlroy Seeks Coaching Advice from Butch Harmon, Former Coach of Tiger Woods, Ahead of the Masters

Michael Bannon, currently ranked as the world number two golfer, has turned to Butch Harmon, former coach of Tiger Woods, for guidance in improving his game. Bannon sought Harmon’s help after struggling to achieve success in his recent PGA Tour events, with only one top-20 finish this season.

Harmon, who previously worked with Woods during his early major victories, has been a trusted advisor for Bannon in the past. Despite having a long-time coach in fellow Northern Irishman Michael Bannon, Bannon occasionally seeks additional input from experts like Harmon and Englishman Pete Cowen.

In a recent podcast interview, Bannon shared that he visited Harmon for a golf lesson and received valuable insights into his game. He mentioned that even his daughter Poppy questioned the need for a lesson, believing that he already knows how to play golf. Bannon found her perspective to be a refreshing reminder of the simplicity inherent in the game.

Bannon’s quest to win The Masters and complete the career Grand Slam has been marked by nine attempts at Augusta, with his best finish being a second place in 2022. Despite his impressive track record and multiple top-10 finishes, Bannon remains determined to overcome challenges and achieve his ultimate goal with the help of mentors like Harmon.
