The drama unfolded at a hospital in the Hamburg district of Heimfeld on Monday. In the midst of a routine pediatric examination, a Bulgarian woman (18) approached the mother and took her baby, running away from the clinic. According to Bild, the girl who played the doctor told the woman that she had dropped something at the information desk and would take care of the baby.

Just a few moments later, it was discovered that there was no baby. It is not yet known whether the child’s mother and the 18-year-old are acquainted with each other. Two large groups of families gathered outside of the hospital, totaling around 40 people, as people accused one another of kidnapping.

Within two hours, the woman returned with the baby and handed it over to hospital staff. She was taken into custody and is being investigated for kidnapping. Bild reports that she recently suffered a miscarriage.
