LaDonna Lynn Phelps, 64, passed away peacefully at her residence in Newton Falls on November 16, 2023. Born to Leon and Lillian Reynolds Garrett on January 16, 1959, in Elberton, Georgia, she was a devoted Christian and active member of the Elberton Church of God.
LaDonna pursued her passion for nursing after graduating from Elbert County High School and attending Athens Technical School. She worked as a nurse for over three decades, retiring from Victoria House in 2021. In her spare time, she enjoyed various hobbies such as crocheting, sewing, baking, playing the piano, and painting pictures.
On April 25, 1995, LaDonna married Walter Phelps. She is survived by her mother Lillian Reynolds Garrett, her husband Walter Phelps Jr., their sons Wesley Davis and Tyler Phelps Jr., daughter Julie Davis Phelps-Levine, brother Keith Garrett III Sr., sisters Saronda Garrett-Barnes and Sherry Garrett-Graves (wife of Samuel Graves), Tammie Garrett-Williams (wife of Robert Williams), three grandchildren: David Levine III Jr., Savannah Levine (wife of Christopher Ricketts), and Kelsey Williams (wife of Brian Williams), as well as three great-grandchildren: David Levine IV Jr., Sophia Ricketts (daughter of Savannah Levine) and Aubree Williams (daughter of Kelsey Williams). LaDonna’s father Leon Garrett preceded her in death.
The family invites friends to gather for calling hours on Tuesday evening from 5 PM until 6 PM at Bernard P. Borowski Memorial Home in Newton Falls. The funeral service will follow at 6 PM with Reverend Richard Jeter officiating. In lieu of flowers or traditional gifts
