India’s impressive run in the World Cup ended with a second place finish. However, there was still a sense of unity within the team as they gathered for one last occasion to award the best fielder medal, presented by fielding coach T Dilip.
The announcements for other medal recipients were made in creative ways throughout the tournament. For instance, Ravindra Jadeja was declared as the winner after India’s semi-final match against New Zealand through the dressing-room TV. Suryakumar Yadav, who had won previously, presented him with a touch of poetry. In Mumbai, Sachin Tendulkar announced Shreyas Iyer as the medal winner after India defeated Sri Lanka. The winner was illuminated in Lucknow after their win over England in a dark stadium. In other locations, the giant screen on the ground, Spidercam and even local field crew were used to announce the medal recipients.
