In recent days, Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov convened a meeting of the Supreme Board of Trustees at Nazarbayev University (NU), Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools, and the Nazarbayev Foundation. The objective of the meeting was to explore the latest scientific advancements taking place in NU laboratories, as reported by Bektenov’s press service.

During the gathering, members of the Supreme Board of Trustees learned about the cutting-edge research teams working on projects related to artificial intelligence development, innovations in optoelectronics for green technologies, and advancements in diagnosing and treating complex diseases at NU laboratories.

One of the highlights of the presentation was a discussion led by Dos Sarbassov, director general of National Laboratory Astana (NLA), who shared information about his team’s work on developing an effective cancer treatment. Encouraging results were reported from initial phases 1 and 2 studies of the drug.

Another significant topic covered during the meeting was a presentation on an accelerator for research on water purification and hydrogen generation that was created in collaboration with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in the United States. Bektenov laid out specific tasks aimed at integrating science and production while also expanding access to scientific infrastructure for Kazakh researchers.

Furthermore, Ainur Akilzhanova, acting director of the Center for Life Sciences at NLA, discussed creating a “genetic profile” for Kazakh citizens. This genetic profile could help identify predispositions to diseases and ultimately contribute to public health protection and domestic medicine development in Kazakhstan.

Overall, this meeting showcased how technology is rapidly advancing in various fields across Kazakhstan. It provided an opportunity for members of government to see firsthand how scientists are working tirelessly to develop solutions that can improve people’s lives and drive economic growth in our country.
