Latvia Leads the Way in Gender Parity in STEM Fields: An Analysis of Women’s Representation Across Different Sectors and EU Member States

Latvia recognized as a leader in promoting women in science and technology within the EU

The proportion of women working as scientists and engineers varies widely across different sectors. In the service sector, 46% of these professionals are women, while in manufacturing, only 22% are.

Latvia has emerged as a leader among EU Member States in terms of the number of women employed in science and technology fields. This includes not only scientists and engineers but also other related occupations such as technicians and associated professionals.

According to recent data, Lithuania, the French region of Corse, and Latvia have the highest shares of women employed in science and technology occupations. In contrast, the Italian regions of Nord-Ovest, Malta, and Sud have the smallest proportions of females working in these fields.

This information was released on February 11 to coincide with International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
