Recently, several student-athletes from local high schools and universities have been recognized for their outstanding performances in their respective sports. Morgan Sarver, a sophomore forward for Slippery Rock University, has been named to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) women’s soccer all-conference team. Sarver finished third in the PSAC in shots and fourth in shots on target, and she was tied for second place in team offensive points with 21. She started in all 18 of her appearances and scored six goals with nine assists for the Rock.
Meanwhile, five members of the Penn State Altoona women’s volleyball program received postseason honors from the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC). Head coach Jamie McGreal was voted coach of the year, while freshman outside hitter Lia Simanski was selected newcomer of the year. Four other Lady Lions were named to the all-conference list: junior libero Anna Batrus was a first-team All-AMCC selection, senior outside hitter Lacee Barnhart and Simanski were both second-team picks, and junior middle Makenna Port earned third-team recognition. McGreal led the Lady Lions to their third conference championship this season.
