Oldest man in the world passes away just two months shy of his 115th birthday

Local officials in Venezuela paid tribute to Juan Vicente Perez, a man who lived through two World Wars and the Covid pandemic, just two months before his 115th birthday. Born on May 27, 1909, Mr. Perez credited his long life to hard work, rest on holidays, early bedtime, daily aguardiente, love for God, and always carrying him in his heart.

The world’s oldest man was confirmed by Guinness World Records when he was 112 years and 253 days old on February 4, 2022. He had five children with his wife Ediofina del Rosario Garcia and celebrated his 110th birthday in 2019. Mr. Perez became the first male supercentenarian from Venezuela that year.

Governor Freddy Bernal expressed deep sadness at Mr. Perez’s passing while remembering him as an archetype of a humble, hard-working, peaceful man enthusiastic about family and tradition. President Nicholas Maduro also offered condolences recognizing Mr. Perez’s contribution to Venezuela’s Guinness World Record as the oldest man in the world.

Guinness World Records is yet to confirm Gisaburo Sonobe of Japan as the world’s next oldest living man at age 112 pending further investigation.
