Miami has recently been ranked as one of the best sports cities in the nation, according to a new study by Wallethub. The South Florida city placed 6th on the list of Best Sports Cities of 2023, behind Los Angeles, Boston, Pittsburgh, New York, and Dallas.

The study evaluated 397 U.S. cities based on their previous rankings in each of the 5 major sports in the country: football, basketball, baseball, soccer, and hockey. To determine each city’s overall score, Wallethub combined the results of five individual rankings based on each sport and assigned a weight to each category based on the total percentage of adults who claim to watch that particular sport. Each category was graded on a 100-point scale.

Miami’s rankings in each sport were as follows: Football – 7th, Basketball – 6th, Baseball – 26th, Soccer – 7th and Hockey – 450th. Despite its low ranking for hockey, Wallethub places the Florida Panthers in Sunrise and assigns a low weight to this sport for the rankings. However, Sunrise did place well in other categories such as best hockey town with a ranking of 9th.

Overall, Miami’s strong performance across multiple sports helped it earn its spot among the top ten best sports cities in the United States alongside Los Angeles and Boston among others.
