Sources reveal that YES Network engaged in conversations with Buck Showalter regarding potential involvement with Yankees’ regional network

The YES Network has expressed interest in hiring two former New York Yankee managers, including Joe Girardi and Buck Showalter. While talks with Showalter were preliminary, they did not progress once his contract status was known. The Mets, who had the right to prevent him from advancing talks with YES, stated that they would not interfere with his pursuit of other opportunities.

Showalter is currently part of MLB Network’s coverage this season and has previous experience as a TV analyst. Given his experience, it is likely that he would have been a valuable addition to YES’s team of experts. However, his role on MLBN will be broader, with only once-a-month appearances, avoiding any potential conflicts with current managers.

The addition of Girardi to YES is unique because he was the previous manager before Boone took over. Girardi was fired after the Yankees’ 2017 season, where they made it to the ALCS Game 7, but has since been replaced by Boone. With Boone on the hot seat after failing to make the playoffs last year, it is unclear if Showalter would have accepted a job with YES at that time. However, given his experience and reputation as a successful manager, he may have been a valuable addition to the network’s team of experts.
