Wednesday’s NHL game between the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils saw a violent brawl break out immediately after the puck dropped at Madison Square Garden. The fight, which lasted for over six minutes, resulted in the ejection of eight players from both teams.

The animosity between the two teams was palpable as soon as the game began, with fists flying and bodies slamming to the ice. Among those ejected were Jacob Trouba and Matt Rempe from the Rangers, as well as John Marino, Chris Tierney, Kurtis MacDermid, and Kevin Bahl from the Devils.

The intensity of the brawl was fueled by previous incidents involving Rempe’s aggressive play against the Devils. In March, he elbowed Jonas Siegenthaler, causing a concussion and earning himself a suspension. Before that, he was ejected for a hit on Nathan Bastian in another game.

Despite receiving fighting majors themselves during the brawl, Devils’ Curtis Lazar and Rangers’ Jimmy Vesey were allowed to continue playing as they were considered to be part of the “first fight.” This marked a significant moment in their rivalry history with each other and their teams.

Overall, Wednesday’s game between these two rivals saw five fights within just two seconds of playtime – making it one of the most intense games in recent memory.
