Venezuelans in Argentina seek help from Pope Francis

Pope Francis has been asked for help by Venezuelans living in Argentina to ensure that all Venezuelans living abroad have the right to vote in the upcoming presidential elections on July 28th. The letter was sent through the Jesuit Migrant Service and expresses gratitude for the pope’s efforts and calls for their human and constitutional rights to be respected.

The appeal aims to put pressure on Maduro’s government to fulfill electoral commitments and recognize the rights of Venezuelans. The electoral situation in Venezuela is tense, with reports of opposition pressure and persecution. While around 220 thousand Venezuelans reside in Argentina, only 2.2 thousand are currently able to vote at the Venezuelan consulate in Buenos Aires.
