Elizabeth Levy Paluck, a professor at Princeton University, has been recognized as one of eight fellows by the American Academy of Political and Social Science (AAPSS) this year. She is known for her work on prejudice reduction, conflict resolution, and social norm development in various settings.

Paluck has previously received a MacArthur “Genius” Fellowship and holds the title of Eugene Higgins Professor of Psychology and Public Affairs at Princeton. She is also the deputy director of the Kahneman-Treisman Center for Behavioral Science & Public Policy at Princeton. Her research focuses on ethnic conflict, political conflict, young people’s conflict in schools, and violence against women. Through large-scale field experiments, she tests theoretically driven interventions that target social norms and behavior to reduce prejudice, violence, and conflict in society.

Marta Tienda, president of AAPSS and a professor at Princeton, welcomed the new fellows with enthusiasm. She believes that insights from social science thought leaders like Paluck are crucial for reimagining American leadership during a pivotal moment in American democracy and ensuring economic opportunities for future generations.

Paluck joined the Princeton faculty in 2009 after completing a fellowship at Harvard Academy for International Affairs and obtaining her Ph.D. and B.S. in psychology from Yale University. Throughout her career, she has received numerous awards and honors such as two Robert B. Cialdini Awards for field research, an Early Career Award from the American Psychological Association’s Society for Peace Conflict Violence, an honorary degree from Claremont Graduate University
