On Saturday night, the University of Hawaii women’s volleyball team celebrated its seniors with a thrilling four-set victory over Long Beach State at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu. Senior Amber Igiede bid aloha to the home crowd with a season-high 21 kills, while sophomore Caylen Alexander put away 19 kills off the bench in a 25-23, 25-23, 14-25, 25-17 victory that seemed improbable early on.

The Beach scored the first seven points of the match and led 18-8 before the Rainbow Wahine (21-8, 14-4 Big West) went on a stunning 10-0 run behind the serving of senior Kendra Ham. They eventually took the opening set on an LBSU service error. UH rallied again to take the second set—going on a late 6-2 run—before the Beach (19-9, 13-5) bounced back in the third. The ‘Bows used a 5-0 surge midway through the fourth to make for a winning night as Hawaii honored Igiede, Ham and fellow seniors Riley Wagoner, Kennedi Evans, Talia Edmonds, and Chandler Cowell, a graduate of King Kekaulike High School.

With the win, the Rainbow Wahine earned the No. 2 seed and a bye in the Big West tournament. They will play in a semifinal Friday in Long Beach
