The Indian ODI World Cup match between India and Australia on November 19 recorded a record high concurrent viewership of 5.8 crore viewers on Disney+ Hotstar. This surpassed the previous record of 5.3 crore, set during the semifinal match between India and New Zealand on November 15.

Despite this milestone, Disney+ Hotstar continues to offer free viewership of the World Cup matches in non-HD format. This move comes after rival Jio Cinema streamed the matches of Indian Premier League (IPL) for free earlier this year.

Reports suggest that Walt Disney is considering various strategic options regarding its India business, including a joint venture or sale, as it looks to reduce costs and help the business grow. Disney CEO Bob Iger mentioned during an earnings call on November 9 that the company plans to stay in India, but is exploring its options extensively.

The Indian team was bowled out by Australia in the World Cup match, with a final score of 240 runs. However, with Australia chasing a target of 241 runs and currently batting at 75/3 in 14.2 overs at 7:26 PM, viewership is expected to peak even further if the match goes down to the wire.
