In the wake of the trade deadline, reports emerged that the Jets had tried to acquire Raiders receiver Davante Adams and Buccaneers receiver Mike Evans. Unsurprisingly, it seems that the Jets will continue their pursuit of Adams in 2024. Additionally, Adam Schefter of ESPN.com has revealed that the Jets plan to make another attempt to acquire Adams following this season’s conclusion.
The Raiders, on the other hand, face a cap situation whether they decide to trade Adams this year (after June 1) or next year (before June 1). If they do trade him in 2024, it would trigger a $23.55 million cap charge for them.
There is potential for a trade between the Jets and Raiders to reunite Adams with former teammate Aaron Rodgers as well as Nathaniel Hackett, Allen Lazard, and Randall Cobb. However, it seems that the Raiders may aim to secure a better deal in the offseason rather than rushing into a trade during Halloween. Nonetheless, if Adams only wants to play for the Jets in 2024, it could weaken their trade leverage when March rolls around.
