Shohei Ohtani Smacks First Dodgers Home Run After Early Struggles

The Los Angeles Dodgers faced off against the San Francisco Giants in a highly anticipated game, with much fanfare surrounding the debut of two-way player Shohei Ohtani. As he took to the field for the first time this season, anticipation was high for him to hit his first home run of 2022.

Ohtani finally got his chance in the bottom of the ninth inning, facing reliever Taylor Rogers. With a sidearm left-hander on the mound, Ohtani was able to take Rogers deep at Dodger Stadium, sending the ball flying 430 feet and exiting the bat at an impressive speed of 105.6 mph. The contact sounded different than usual and fans were ecstatic as they watched Ohtani make history with his first home run of the season.

The lucky fan who caught Ohtani’s homer was escorted from the stands after exchanging it for two caps, a bat, and a meeting with the player himself. This rare left-handed home run off Rogers is only Ohtani’s eighth in his MLB career and his first since 2021. The homer helped put the Dodgers in a commanding lead over their rivals, but San Francisco’s Jorge Soler had other plans and hit a solo shot in the next inning.

Despite this setback, Ohtani continued to shine on both sides of the game, impressing with his talents as a batter and pitcher alike. After a scoreless eighth inning, Dinelson Lamet was brought on to secure his first career save with a top-of-the-ninth performance that saw him strike out three batters without allowing any hits or walks.

Ohtani’s home run was not only significant because it put him one step closer to making history with his impressive milestones but also because it lifted some of the pressure he has been feeling since signing a massive contract with the Dodgers in free agency. With every successful performance like this one under his belt, Ohtani continues to prove why he is considered one of baseball’s most talented players today.
