A terrible thunderstorm hit the Zagreb area around 2 a.m. tonight, causing many sleepless nights for residents in the area. One Twitter user described the situation as an “apocalypse,” while another said he did not expect to be woken up by thunder at 3 in the morning.
On Facebook, one user wrote that it was two hours after midnight when he was startled awake by the thunder. He initially thought it was an earthquake due to the strong shocks. Dunja Plačko Vršnak from DHMZ confirmed that this weather is appropriate for this time of year and also stated that there have been announced changes in weather and cyclones moving over our area, which brought us thunder with strong shocks. The EMSC tweeted about how strong the thunder was, with many users thinking it was an earthquake due to the rumbling and shaking they felt in the northern part of Zagreb.
