Independence, Iowa – U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Ranking Member of the Senate Small Business Committee, today announced her Small Business of the Week: Geater Machining and Manufacturing of Buchanan County. Throughout this Congress, Ranking Member Ernst plans to recognize a small business in every one of Iowa’s 99 counties.

Geater Machining and Manufacturing is an exceptional small business that has been around for over 61 years, three generations and a great deal of hard work. The Geater family has built the company into a remarkable enterprise with a global reach, producing precision machines and fabricated parts for the aerospace, electronics, and high-tech industries. The company started in 1962 under the leadership of Duane Geater and has continued to grow while keeping its roots firmly planted in Independence, Iowa.

Ranking Member Ernst said “I’m proud to recognize this family and their team’s dedication to providing top quality products and supporting the next generation of high-tech leaders in Iowa.” Geater Machining and Manufacturing is committed to giving back to the Buchanan County community by offering student outreach opportunities such as an apprenticeship program, job shadowing, academic speakers, among others.

The company’s products are used in equipment around the globe, most notably in helicopter radios used to transport the Navy SEAL team that killed Osama bin Laden. Stay tuned as Ranking Member Ernst recognizes more Iowa small businesses across the state with her Small Business of the Week award.
