In conclusion, the special prosecutor Robert Hur’s investigation into the withholding of confidential documents by US President Joe Biden has resulted in a 388-page report that exonerates Biden on legal grounds. However, the report also highlights the fragility of the 81-year-old president, particularly his “bad memory” which appears to have deteriorated in recent years. This has weakened Biden politically, especially as he faces a close race with his main opponent, Donald Trump.

While Hur does not recommend launching proceedings against Biden, he does note that Biden’s memory lapses during interviews with US officials and his biographer, suggesting that he may be suffering from diminished faculties and memory defects. Additionally, the report accuses Biden of keeping classified documents at his home without authorization but suggests that a juror could conclude that he may have forgotten or been unaware of their existence.

Despite this, the report also acknowledges that Biden was entitled to possess these documents at the time of their discovery in his capacity as president. Nonetheless, it has weakened him politically and given his opponents ammunition to question his fitness for office.

Former President Donald Trump, who is also facing accusations of keeping confidential documents, reacted angrily to the report by denouncing a “two-tiered judicial system.” Republicans seized this opportunity to attack Biden’s competency and made statements about elderly individuals with bad memories not being fit to hold nuclear codes.

The White House responded negatively to the report and stated that comments on Biden’s memory were not accurate or appropriate. They argued that interviews took place during an international crisis which may have contributed to his inaccuracies. Despite this, Biden responded angrily to the report insisting that he does not have memory problems.

In summary, while Hur’s investigation has cleared Biden legally on charges related to document classification violations, it has significantly weakened him politically and given his opponents ammunition to question his fitness for office due to allegations regarding his memory and handling of classified information.
