Taiwan’s capital city, Taipei was hit by a devastating 7.4 magnitude earthquake on April 3, claiming the lives of nine people and injuring over a thousand. Buildings shook violently and bridges swayed dangerously as individuals desperately sought shelter from the intense tremors.

The viral video of a man struggling in a rooftop swimming pool amidst powerful waves caused by the quake has captured people’s attention. Despite the perilous circumstances, the man remained composed and stayed in place. Another video circulating on social media shows water cascading down a skyscraper like a waterfall from a rooftop swimming pool.

Reports from news agencies state that this is the most powerful earthquake to hit Taiwan in 25 years, with officials warning about potential aftershocks in the days to come. Taiwanese officials compared the severity of this quake to the 7.6 magnitude earthquake that struck the country in 1999, claiming 2,400 lives.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sympathy towards the families who lost loved ones and wished speedy recovery to those injured due to the earthquake. He also conveyed India’s solidarity with Taiwan as they work towards recovery from this devastating event.
