Ex-NFL General Manager Suggests Outlandish Quarterback Trade for Vikings

Several NFL teams are making changes at the quarterback position in hopes of setting themselves up for the future. One such team is the Minnesota Vikings, who are currently in need of a new starting quarterback after Kirk Cousins moved on to join the Atlanta Falcons. Former NFL GM and current ESPN analyst Mike Tannenbaum recently suggested a bold trade proposal that would see the Vikings acquire Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray and the 66th overall draft pick in exchange for the 11th overall pick.

Tannenbaum proposes this trade as a way to help the Cardinals clear cap space, officially begin the McCarthy era in Arizona, and address the Vikings’ quarterback issues. While Tannenbaum believes that the No. 11 pick for Murray straight up is too costly, he also thinks that the Vikings’ No. 23 pick on its own may not be enough. Therefore, he suggests including a third-round pick in the deal to balance things out. The trade proposal is modeled after a similar move made by the Cardinals during the 2022 draft when they traded their first-round pick to the Baltimore Ravens for receiver Marquise Brown and a third-rounder.
