Atthaya Thitikul didn’t win a tournament this season, but she did receive a trophy. The 20-year-old from Thailand finished with a 69.533 scoring average over 75 rounds, beating out Hyo Joo Kim by less than a 0.1 strokes. This made Thitikul the first player in the award’s 70-year existence to win the scoring title without winning a tournament.
Thitikul also became just the second Thai to lift the Vare Trophy, following Ariya Jutanugarn in 2018. She was thrilled with her accomplishment and said it meant a lot for her career. Despite finishing in fifth place at the CME Group Tour Championship on Sunday, six shots better than T-13 Kim, Thitikul had a strong season overall. She finished with 13 top-10 finishes and was happy to bounce back from a summer slump that included two MCs in majors and a WD after an opening 79 at the Women’s Scottish.
