Marko Mišić, a Croatian man who lived in Slavonski Brod, tragically passed away at the age of 68 on November 14, 2023. The cause of death was a severe beating he suffered while trying to protect his forest from theft. Marko’s funeral took place on November 18 at the local cemetery in Brezica, where many well-wishers gathered to pay their respects.
Marko was born in Brezici on July 2, 1955 to Joza and Kate. Throughout his life, he worked as a craftsman and spent many years working abroad before returning home to rebuild his house in 2008. Marko was known for his strong work ethic, honesty, and devotion to his faith. These qualities were recognized by Fr. Anto Tomas, the parish guardian and priest, who remembered him fondly as a hardworking and pious individual.
On October 12th of this year, Marko sustained severe brain, lung and rib injuries when he tried to prevent thieves from stealing wood from his forest. Despite receiving medical attention, his condition remained critical until his unfortunate passing on November 14th at the hospital in Slavonski Brod. Two suspects have been taken into custody for their role in the assault including one minor who will face legal sanctions for their actions.
Marko leaves behind three children and five grandchildren who will miss him dearly. His family and community mourn the loss of such a dedicated and caring individual who always put others first.
