U.S. Department of State Heads U.S. Team at Global Radio Communications Summit

In Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Nathaniel C. Fick, Ambassador at Large for Cyberspace and Digital Policy, and Deputy Assistant Secretary Steve Lang are set to attend the World Radiocommunication Conference 2023 (WRC-23). The event is scheduled to begin on November 20 and will see a nearly 200-member U.S. delegation in attendance, including officials from various government departments and the telecommunications sector.

World Radiocommunication Conferences take place every four years with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) hosting them to update global regulations on the use of radio frequency spectrum and satellite orbital resources. WRC-23 presents a significant opportunity for the US to advance its interests related to telecommunications, innovation, economic growth, and national security.

Steve Lang has been appointed as head of the US delegation and will promote US priorities and interests at the conference. These include securing US leadership in future 5G spectrum availability, expanding connectivity, driving innovation in space economy, protecting national defense capabilities and preserving radio frequency for maritime safety.
