Unveiling the Mystery of the Happiest Country in the World

For the seventh consecutive year, Finland has been named the world’s happiest country according to the World Happiness Report. The report, established in 2012 by the United Nations to promote sustainable development goals, surveyed participants who rated their lives on a scale from one to ten. Finland scored 7.7 and secured its top spot in the rankings. Scandinavian countries dominated the list while the United States and Germany fell out of the top 20. Afghanistan, plagued by war and conflict, ranked lowest with a score of 1.7.

The happiness of Finnish citizens can be attributed to several factors including gender equality, trust in national institutions and citizens, low corruption, education, healthcare, family support and sauna culture. Finland was the first country in the world to grant women full rights to vote and run for parliamentary elections in 1906. Additionally, Helsinki was rated as one of the most honest cities by Reader’s Digest.

Transparency International ranks Finland as one of the least corrupt countries after Denmark.

The Finnish government’s policies on education, healthcare and family support also contribute significantly to its citizens’ happiness levels. Finland’s education system is ranked among the best globally and offers universal healthcare. However, some believe that Finns’ emphasis on sauna culture also plays a role in their contentment.

With approximately 3 million saunas in Finland alone, it has a sauna for every two residents. Saunas are found in all government buildings and are an integral part of Finnish culture.

An exhibition titled “Die Sauna: Echt heiss – Echt finnisch” hosted at Berlin sponsored by Finnish embassy celebrates this cultural heritage with photos, videos and an actual sauna available for visitors to experience.

Finland’s unique blend of societal factors including gender equality measures against corruption , education system , health care policies ,family support and sauna traditions have contributed significantly to its high levels of happiness among its citizens making it stand out as a role model for other nations around the world.
