Fox Chapel aims for section sweep after rain delay: WPIAL sports highlights for March 27, 2024

On Wednesday, WPIAL baseball and softball teams resumed action after a rainy Tuesday forced the cancellation of games. In Section 1-5A, Franklin Regional looked to build on their recent success as they faced Penn Hills. The Panthers had just won 15-1 and were hoping for another victory on Wednesday. Meanwhile, in Section 2-2A, Laurel managed to pull off a comeback win over South Side with a two-run walk-off single in the seventh inning. The two teams will face off again on Wednesday.

In terms of softball, North Hills and Penn Hills met on Wednesday in their Section 1-5A opener. Both teams had been performing well so far, with North Hills sitting at 3-1 and Penn Hills winning their first two nonsection games decisively. After a few more section contests, the teams will meet again in two weeks at North Hills.

Fox Chapel baseball, with a record of 1-0 in section play, was also back in action on Wednesday as they visited Penn-Trafford. The team had needed extra innings to secure a win in their last game against Warriors and hoped to continue their winning ways against the Eagles on Wednesday.
